In a recent development, the University of Delhi has contemplated providing unique student assistance. This is for the students who have used all opportunities for special chance examinations whether already granted or to be sanctioned in the future. The council has set to deliberate on the possibility of implementing special moderation measures. This step is for students who find themselves grappling with adverse circumstances. These impede them opportunity to finish the course within the designated time frame. This matter has set for discussion during the upcoming academic council meeting scheduled for Thursday. This predicament often leads to the unfortunate consequence of the entire duration spent pursuing the course becoming futile.

It underscores the university’s recognition of the challenges faced by certain students. It highlights a proactive approach in addressing the unique difficulties that may arise during the academic journey. This is important for the students who need an opportunity to finish the course. The proposed measures aim to ensure a fair and equitable academic experience for individuals navigating unforeseen obstacles in their educational pursuits.

In universities, there exists a stipulated time frame for students to successfully conclude their degree programs. However, with the introduction of the National Education Policy’s Undergraduate Credit Framework (NEP UGCF-2022), there is now a welcomed alleviation for individuals who encounter challenges completing their degree courses within the designated period.

This policy adjustment acknowledges the diverse circumstances that students may face during their academic journeys. It is providing an opportunity to finish the course for those who find themselves unable to meet the traditional completion deadlines. By offering this relief, the NEP UGCF-2022 aims to accommodate the varying needs and challenges of students. It is fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and recognizes the unique paths each learner may traverse in pursuing their education.

In some circumstances, even if a person does not successfully complete the entire degree programme, they may still have the opportunity to finish the course. This is how thwy can get a certificate or diploma, as applicable. Furthermore, there is a seven-year grace period to finish the degree.

Students Got the Opportunity to Finish Their Course

As outlined in the agenda items, the circumstances pose a significant challenge for students who have fulfilled all course requirements except for a single paper. This situation arises due to adverse circumstances hindering the students from completing the degree. In such instances, the university may contemplate providing an opportunity to finish the course. This is for the outstanding paper, as mentioned earlier.

The provision under consideration entails the possibility of implementing special moderation exclusively for students. This is for them who find themselves with only one remaining paper, with the maximum moderation capped at 10 marks. Notably, this special moderation could be in addition to any existing moderation already applied to that specific paper.

However, it is imperative to clarify that this opportunity to finish the course is exclusively applicable to students who have successfully met all the course requirements except for a solitary paper, which hinders their progress towards completing their degree. The university will make a final decision after a thorough evaluation of the reasons presented by the concerned student.

Furthermore, this unique relief may be extended to students who have utilised all their opportunities for special chance examinations, as granted or as may be granted by the university. This underscores a flexible approach in recognizing exceptional circumstances that may impede a student from fulfilling all academic requirements.

On a different note, a noteworthy development at DU involves the potential for students to undertake 40% of their semester courses online. This shift towards online learning has come into focus as the university has included the UGC’s online learning platform, Swayam. It is a significant agenda item in its academic council meeting.

This proposal for integrating online teaching was initially introduced in 2019 during the academic council discussions. The council subsequently accepted the adoption of UGC regulations in 2016. It has recommended its approval at the university’s executive council meeting. This reflects a broader effort to embrace modern educational approaches and adapt to evolving learning environments.

Students Can Attend 40% Programme Online

At DU, students could potentially benefit from the opportunity to enrol in up to 40% of their semester courses through online platforms. This development comes in the wake of the university featuring the UGC online learning platform, Swayam. This is a significant agenda item for its academic council meeting. The proposal to integrate online teaching methods into the academic framework had initially introduced in 2019.

The prospect of allowing students to undertake a substantial portion of their courses online reflects a broader shift towards incorporating digital learning tools into traditional university education. By listing Swayam as a key agenda item, DU signals its intention to explore and possibly implement this initiative. The move aligns with a trend observed in various academic institutions globally, where online platforms are increasingly becoming integral to the education landscape.
