Bhagini Nivedita College (BNC) stands as a women’s degree college located in North-West Delhi, India. Established in 1993, the college is under the management of the registered society known as Savitri Bai Phule Shiksha Prasar Samiti.
This society was founded in 1990 with the noble intention of advancing education among girls hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Dr. M. Umar Farooq, its founder Secretary-cum-President, provided visionary leadership for this initiative.
At its inception, the college commenced its journey with a modest enrollment of 48 students across three courses: B.A. Honours in Hindi, Political Science, and History. It gained affiliation with the esteemed University of Delhi and began its operations under the guidance of an Executive Governing Body and an Advisory Committee.
Dr. G. K. Arora, a former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University and a distinguished professor, served as the chairperson of these bodies, which also included other eminent personalities as members. The relentless efforts of this collective leadership led Bhagini Nivedita College to be recognized as the ‘Best Institution providing Education to Women’ by the University Grants Commission during 1997-98.

University Guidelines on Girls’ Washrooms and General Maintenance
On March 8th, 2013, a meeting was convened at the Proctor’s office for the Board of Residence, Health, and Discipline. After thorough deliberation, the board reached the following conclusions:
The college principals, particularly those of girls’ colleges, will be kindly urged to ensure clear signage for washrooms and urinals designated for males and females. This is aimed at preventing any unnecessary confusion among occasional visitors to the colleges.
To ensure the maintenance of cleanliness, hygiene, and proper illumination, the Inspection Committee will undertake unannounced inspections of facilities such as eateries, cafeterias, and restrooms in the University’s colleges, institutions, halls, and hostels. Special attention will be given to implementing security lighting, particularly in evening colleges. Comprehensive reports of these inspections will be compiled and submitted to the University.
The canteen operates on all weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, offering a variety of food items including cold drinks, tea, burgers, patties, samosas], bread pakoras, and chow mein.
