About us – College of Nursing at Army Hospital (R&R)Vision And MissionVision:Mission:HistoryBest PracticesCoursesSocieties

We strive to be an exemplary institution in nurse education, research, and practice by fostering collaboration among members of the healthcare team, dedication to evidence-based practice, participation in the Armed Forces Military Health System initiatives and international collaborations that reflect global health concerns. The goal of our comprehensive education program is to ensure our graduates possess the clinical judgment and decision-making skills needed to meet timely healthcare needs through delivery systems that are efficient, cost-effective, ethical, person-centred and culturally sensitive.

At the College of Nursing at Army Hospital (R&R), we’re committed to providing nurses with the best possible training experience – one that prepares them for whatever future path awaits them as a professional nurse. Our students come from diverse backgrounds: ranging from enlisted personnel transitioning into civilian life, ex-servicemen looking for an alternative career route after retirement or young adults just starting out on their professional journey. We do what it takes to provide our students with an exceptional educational experience—one that helps equip them for success in whatever role they choose within professional nursing practice.

Vision And Mission

Vision:

To be a leading centre of excellence in nursing by equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide safe and quality healthcare services.

Mission:

Our mission is to develop motivated nursing professionals with a vision for life-long learning who are culturally competent and ethical, dedicated to quality care through patient safety, evidence-based practice, and interprofessional collaboration. We will foster an environment of integrity and respect while advocating for health equity and social justice initiatives regionally, nationally, and globally.

History

The College of Nursing at Army Hospital (R&R) was established in 1951 as a nursing school to train and equip Army nurses with the proper knowledge and skills required to serve in the military health system. It was initially established as the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and later renamed to College of Nursing at Army Hospital R&R in 1993.

Throughout its history, the college has played an integral role in providing army personnel with consistent and excellent standards of healthcare and providing a well-trained pool of nursing staff for military hospitals around the world. The college has advanced its curriculum to keep up with changing technology, medical advancements, and other developments in the field of nursing, including advanced courses such as basic trauma care, acute care and emergency room management that are important for nurses to understand within a military context.

In recent years, the college has focused on developing several short-term courses on common medical conditions like troop watchfulness, critical care techniques for troops stationed overseas and responding to prehospital environment scenarios. It also offers to continue professional education for both active duty officers seeking additional training or civilian nurses looking to gain new skills or advance their career development opportunities within the Army health system.

Over time, the College of Nursing at Army Hospital (R&R) has become highly renowned both nationally and internationally due to its outstanding quality education program. It is accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) proving that its curriculum meets rigorous standards prescribed by professional organizations like American Nurses Association (ANA).

Best Practices

  • Maintain professional standards: Ensure that faculty adhere to the highest standards of nursing practice, conduct, and professionalism.
  • Implement evidence-based practice: Develop and use research-based teaching strategies, employ best practices in care delivery, and cultivate a culture of safety to ensure excellence in patient outcomes.
  • Embrace diversity: Establish an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff that respects and celebrates diversity regardless of race, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, or physical ability/disability status.
  • Strengthen relationships with healthcare providers: Build partnerships with federal medical institutions through opportunities such as continuing education programs and internship placements to create an efficient network for information sharing and collaboration throughout the care delivery process.
  • Promote health promotion strategies: Develop programs for student nurses that increase awareness about various health topics relevant to the overall well-being of patients to facilitate healthier lifestyles.
  • Enhance technological capabilities: Leverage new technologies to enhance learning experiences and provide better access to practice tools while streamlining administrative processes associated with record-keeping or program evaluation activities.
