List of Best DU Colleges

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)

The Ministry of Education in India initiated the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Its goal is to rank Indian higher education institutions in terms of teaching, learning, research, public perception, and outreach.

The NIRF ranking is released annually and provides insights into the performance and quality of Indian colleges and universities across different domains.

The parameters considered for NIRF ranking include teaching, learning, and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.

Each institution is evaluated on these criteria, and the rankings are determined accordingly.

The NIRF rankings cover a wide range of institutions, including universities, engineering colleges, management institutes, pharmacy colleges, architecture colleges, law colleges, medical colleges, and overall institutions.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has revolutionized the evaluation and ranking of higher education institutions in India. By employing comprehensive parameters and encouraging excellence, NIRF plays a pivotal role in driving quality education, fostering research and innovation, and promoting social engagement.

As NIRF evolves and adapts to the changing educational landscape, it continues to empower stakeholders and catalyze the transformation of Indian higher education.

Parameters for NIRF rankings

There are 5 broad parameters for NIRF rankings. These are as follows:-

  • Teaching learning and resources (TLR)
  • Research and Professional Practice (RP)
  • Graduation  outcome (GO)
  • Outreach and inclusivity (OI)
  • Perception (PR)

NIRF Rankings 2023 for DU colleges

5 colleges found their way into the top 10 of the NIRF Rankings 2023 for DU colleges

NIRF Ranking of Miranda House

Miranda House is a premier women's institution in India and one of the oldest women’s colleges at Delhi University. It was founded on 15th August 1948.
No.1 college in DU NIRF Rankings 2023

The No.1 college in DU NIRF rankings 2023 with a score of 74.81 is Miranda House. This is the 7th time Miranda House is bagging the first position in the rankings.

From 78.35, 56.66, and 77.06 in 2022, the college’s TLR, RP, and OI parameters decreased to 70.10, 55.41, and 75.94 in 2023, respectively.

Whereas the PR parameter slightly increased, according to the NIRF rankings 2023.

“This is the 7th time we are at rank 1. The college continues to work on the parameters and strives to maintain outreach and inclusivity, teaching-learning, and research through various stakeholders of the college… What we want to focus on now is research & professional practice, outreach & inclusivity.”

Bijaylaxmi Nanda, The principal of the college

Hindu College

Established in 1899, Hindu College has been at the forefront of imparting top-notch academic education in India.
Hindu College Ranked 2nd

Hindu College ranked 2nd for the second year in a row with a score of 72.39 in the NIRF rankings 2023.

Although the TLR parameter decreased, the college saw a significant advancement in the RP and PR scores, with an increase of 8.89 and 4.15 respectively.

“It is reassuring that our work is being recognised and we are on the right track… The parameters they consider have a lot to do with outreach and research. We have tried to improve on these fronts by providing more options and development to students. We have also tried to consciously involve students in service-related and outreach programs…,”

Anju Srivastava, The principal of the college

ARSD College

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College

In the DU Colleges NIRF 2023, Rankings Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College or ARSD College saw an increase in its ranking by one position, bagging the 6th position, as compared to the 7th position in the rankings of 2022, with a score of 70.78.

The college saw a decrease in the TLR and GO rankings as compared to last year. But what they lost in those categories, they made up in the RP and PR parameters, each witnessing a significant increase.

Another remarkable thing to note is that the ARSD college bagged the first position in the latest NAAC rankings, overtaking Miranda House and Hindu College.

Lady Shri Ram College For Women

We are one of the leading women’s colleges in India, with a distinguished history of fostering and nurturing women’s education for more than fifty years.

Lady Shri Ram College for Women bagged the 9th position on the NIRF rankings 2023, sharing it with Kirori Mal College, with a score of 69.32. The TLR, OI, and PR parameters decreased in LSR. In 2023, these were 62.08, 74.88, and 93.59, as compared to 68.79, 75.29, and 94.42 in 2022. The college saw a dip in the ranking, from 5th position in 2022 to 9th in 2023.

“At a cursory glance, we have done well in the graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity, and peer perception but in the domain of research publications we need enhanced efforts by our faculty members. We also have very few science courses. Ours is the only smaller college that is primarily non-science in the list of top 10. We will collectively try to put in more effort and see how we can improve further.”

Suman Sharma,The principal

Kirori Mal College

Kirori Mal College (KMC) was established in 1954 by the University of Delhi and is one of the oldest colleges in Delhi.

Among the DU Colleges NIRF 2023 Rankings, Kirori Mal College, sharing the achievement with LSR College, also bagged the 9th position, with a score of 69.32. But unlike LSR, Kirori Mal College saw an increase in ranking from 10th in 2022 to 9th in 2023.

“Once you reach the first 10 institutions’ list, it becomes a cut-throat competition… We have worked very hard on research and professional practice — where we were 49.26, now are 57.56. A lot of research publications from our faculty have appeared in top research journals. We have also improved on graduation outcome compared to last year.”

said the principal Dinesh Khattar.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the NIRF rankings 2023 have provided insight into the quality and performance of Indian colleges and universities.

The NIRF rankings 2023 serve as a guiding framework for institutions, encouraging them to strive for excellence and drive the transformation of Indian higher education. By evaluating colleges and universities on multiple parameters, the rankings promote healthy competition and facilitate the identification of areas for improvement.

It is essential to acknowledge the collective efforts of the faculty, students, and administrative bodies in achieving these rankings. The commitment to research, professional practice, outreach, and inclusivity will contribute to the holistic development of students and the overall growth of the education system.

As the NIRF rankings continue to evolve and adapt to the changing educational landscape, it is expected that institutions will embrace these rankings as a valuable tool for self-assessment and continuous improvement.

The rankings will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of quality education, innovation, and social engagement in Indian higher education institutions.
