What is the Rank of Delhi University in the World?

University of Delhi, one of the esteemed government educational institutions of India, recently backed 521-530 rank out of 1422 universities, in the QS world ranking 2023.

Delhi University (DU) is one of the country’s esteemed and renowned higher education institutions. Delhi University world ranking has always impressed all the students, faculty members and alumni. The university has consistently strived for academic excellence and produced distinguished alumni across various fields.

In this article, we delve into Delhi University world rankings and its position among other universities worldwide.

Delhi University – Dream of every student

DU is a comprehensive university that offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is also home to several research institutes and centres of excellence. The university has produced many notable alumni, including politicians, scientists, and artists.

DU is a highly competitive and best-ranked university in India, and it is difficult to secure a seat in a decent regular college at Delhi University.

Thousands of students strive to get into their preferred college and courses at the University of Delhi each year. And the cut-offs are just skyrocketing, breaking all previous records with each successive year.

However, the university offers a high-quality education and it is a great place to study.

Delhi University QS World University Rankings

Recently, the 2023 QS World University Rankings were announced, and if we see Delhi University world rankings, stats showed that it came in at 521-530 rank out of 1422 universities. This is a slight improvement from its ranking in 2022 when it was ranked 501-510.

The QS world rankings in simple words are a portfolio depicting comparative university rankings. Where the whole of the information about different universities is compiled by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).

The first edition of these rankings, also showing Delhi University world rankings was released long back in 2004 in collaboration with Times Higher Education (THE) magazine as Times Higher Education–QS World University Rankings.

Since then, QS’ rankings portfolio has expanded to consist of the QS World University Rankings, the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

How is Delhi University World Ranking determined?

Delhi University’s world rankings are primarily based on factors like academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, and internationalisation. The university’s strong academic reputation and its large number of international students are two of the factors that contributed to its improved ranking.

Apart from DU, many Indian colleges like Jawaharlal Nehru College, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, and Jamia were also there in the rankings. Also, DU grabbed 91st place in the top 100 colleges for sociology in the world.

158 Indian Universities in QS World Ranking Report 2023

The QS World Rankings 2023 declared 11 institutes of Eminence and in them, there is an aggregate of 44% of  Indian entries (158). The most famous ones were DU with 27 entries, IIT Bombay(25 entries), and IIT Kharagpur (23 entries).

There were a total of 44 educational programmes provided by the Indian higher education system which featured a place in the top 100 globally. And we made an improvement in this number as last year it was 35 and now it is 44.

While calculating the comparative rankings of various universities many factors are taken into consideration some of them are academic reputation which has around 40% weightage, employer reputation with 10% weightage, Faculty/student ratio (20%), Citations/faculty (20%), and finally Internationalisation (10%).

Trends of Delhi University’s World Rankings in the last few years

As mentioned earlier the QS World University rankings are released every year since 2004, to get some more insights and see a long run view of the QS rankings and position of Delhi University over the years, the data the for the last few have been mentioned here under: 

2023: In the QS World University Rankings 2023, Delhi University world ranking was within the 521-530 range.

2021: In the QS World University Rankings 2021, Delhi University secured a position within the 601-650 range globally. It maintained a consistent presence in the rankings, highlighting its strong academic reputation and impact on the global educational landscape.

2020: In the QS World University Rankings 2020, Delhi University was also placed within the 601-650 range globally, showcasing its sustained position among the top universities worldwide.

2019: Delhi University’s ranking in the QS World University Rankings 2019 was globally in the 481-490 range. This indicated a slight improvement compared to previous years, reflecting the university’s continued efforts in enhancing its academic standing.

Conclusion

Delhi University World Ranking is a testament to its strong academic legacy, faculty expertise, and commitment to fostering a vibrant educational environment. The university is committed to providing its students with a high-quality education, and it is working to address the challenges that it faces.

The rank of Delhi University in the world showcases its dedication to excellence, making it a sought-after destination for students aspiring to receive a world-class education in the heart of India’s capital. And even many students from abroad come to India only and only to complete their studies at the University of Delhi.

In the end, it is very important to know that rankings should not be the sole factor in evaluating the quality of an institution. Delhi University’s reputation, academic programs, faculty expertise, research contributions, and overall student experience should be considered when assessing its educational value.
