History of Lady Irwin College
Established in 1932 by Lady Dorothy Irwin, the wife of Sir James Lyall, Lady Irwin College stands as one of India’s oldest all-women’s land grant colleges. Its inception aimed to advance education among Indian women. Originally affiliated with Delhi University, the college initially offered instruction exclusively in Home Science and Pre-Primary Teacher Training courses. However, in 1966, it transformed, adopting its current name and expanding its academic offerings to include undergraduate programs in Arts, Commerce, and Science.
In 1977, Lady Irwin College introduced Post Graduate Courses, marking a significant milestone in its academic journey. Subsequently, in 1982, two Self Financing Courses were incorporated into its curriculum.
