History of Lady Irwin College

Established in 1932 by Lady Dorothy Irwin, the wife of Sir James Lyall, Lady Irwin College stands as one of India’s oldest all-women’s land grant colleges. Its inception aimed to advance education among Indian women. Originally affiliated with Delhi University, the college initially offered instruction exclusively in Home Science and Pre-Primary Teacher Training courses. However, in 1966, it transformed, adopting its current name and expanding its academic offerings to include undergraduate programs in Arts, Commerce, and Science.

In 1977, Lady Irwin College introduced Post Graduate Courses, marking a significant milestone in its academic journey. Subsequently, in 1982, two Self Financing Courses were incorporated into its curriculum. Over its nearly 90-year history, the college has experienced substantial growth and now provides a diverse array of over 50 courses covering disciplines such as Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, and Technical Education. Additionally, Lady Irwin College offers research degrees including M.Phill and Ph.D.

After each session, the department organizes a placement meeting for graduating teacher interns from the B.Ed. and B.Ed. Special Education programs. During this event, approximately 25-30 schools participated in interviews and interactions with prospective teachers. A positive trend has been noted, with graduating interns having the opportunity to choose from 2 to 3 job offers.

The placement report for the batch of 2023 at Lady Irwin College has not been released yet.
