The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions in central universities in India. Marking Scheme CUET Examination 2023

As, from now onwards admissions to all be it undergraduate, postgraduation, or Ph.D. courses will be done through CUET only. So it is very important to know and understand its marking scheme for students to evaluate their scores in a better way.

So here a detailed explanation about the same is given here. In order to make it simple, you must know that CUET scores have two aspects Raw scores and percentile. All of this is briefly elaborated on here under.

What are Raw Scores and How to Calculate it?

Raw Scores are the marks of the individual alone without making any comparison with the rest of the students who have appeared for exams. While calculating of  CUET examination 2023 results negative marking will also be applicable, you will be eligible to receive 5 marks for each correct answer and 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer.

For every Correct Answer(+)5 marks
For every Incorrect Answer(-)1 mark
Unattempted QuestionNo negative marking

Your raw score for each subject will be calculated by adding up the number of correct answers and subtracting the number of incorrect answers. For making it simpler the formula is written here:

CUET Score = (No.of Correct Answers *5)  –  (No. of  Incorrect Answers * 1)

What is Percentile and How to Calculate it?

How CUET Scores are Calculated

Percentile Score is the one which you arrive at after comparing your score with other candidates. Hence your percentile score is the one which is calculated by comparing your raw score to the raw scores of all other candidates who took the CUET exam.

Your percentile score will be a number between 0 and 100, where 100 represents the top score and 0 represents the lowest score. The percentile of a candidate will be calculated on the basis of the Normalisation process.

As per NTA “These normalized marks of the candidates, obtained using equipercentile method, in different sessions in a given subject can be used in the same way we use the raw marks of a conventional single session examination’’.

How to Calculate CUET Percentile:

So in order to calculate the percentile through the normalization method the formula is as follows:

100 *   No. of students who appeared for the examination with a raw score equal to or               less than the score of the candidate

Total  No. of Students who were in session

CUET Marks VS Percentile

There is a very big difference between the marks obtained by a student and their percentile. Raw scores are just scores at an individual level, on the other hand, the percentile is the relative scores of a candidate in comparison to all other candidates who have appeared for the examination. Here CUET marks vs percentile range are given below in a table form:

                    Marks ObtainedPercentile Range
200 to 188100
187 to 17099
169 to 15098-97
149 to 13096-95
129 to 11094-93
109 to 9092-90
89 to 8089-84
79 to 7083-80
69 to 6079-75
59 to 50 74-70
49 to 4069-55
39 to 2054-30

Conclusion

It is very important to accurately calculate your CUET Scores as this is the only basis of your admission to your dream college. So apply the above method with great discretion, also a few tips are given here to keep in mind in order to correctly calculate your score. And lastly, best of luck for the results!

  • Make sure you have the correct number of correct and incorrect answers for each subject.
  • Use the correct formulas to calculate your raw score and percentile score.
  • If you are unsure of how to calculate your CUET score, you can ask your teacher or counsellor for help.
