In college, we often hear about GPA, CGPA, and %. These are ways our education system measures how well we’re doing in our studies. We use the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) system in India. CGPA shows how well we’re doing overall in our courses. Now let’s know about how to convert CGPA to Percentage.

What exactly is CGPA?

It’s a number that tells us how we perform in all our courses. Each grade we get, like A, B, or C, has a number assigned, usually from 0 to 10. For example, an A might be a 10, while a B could be an 8.

To find our CGPA, we add up all these numbers for our courses and then divide them by how many courses we’ve taken. CGPA helps colleges understand our overall performance and can affect things like scholarships and academic standing.

When we’re applying for college or jobs, sometimes we need to use our percentages. There are tools and methods to help with this, which we can explore to make things easier when needed.

Now, let’s see “How to calculate percentage from CGPA”.

How to Compute CGPA from Grade Points?

How to Compute CGPA from Grade Points?

Calculating your CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) from your subject grade points (GPs) is easy. Just add up the grade points you’ve earned in 5 subjects (not counting extra courses), then divide the total by 5.

For example, if you got 7 in Accountancy, 10 in Marketing, 9 in HRM, 10 in Financial Management, and 8 in Political Science, your CGPA would be (7+10+9+10+8)/5 = 8.8.

Each university in India might have its own grading system, but most use a 10-point scale. Here are the grade points and the grades they correspond to:

Sr.No.Grade PointGrade

29A
38B+
47B
56C+

How to Convert CGPA into Percentage?

You need to use a conversion factor. The factor you use depends on your college’s grading system. But typically, for a 10-point CGPA scale, you multiply by 9.5, and for a 4-point scale, you multiply by 5.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Take your CGPA and multiply it by the conversion factor. So if you have a CGPA of 8.5 on a 10-point scale, you’d multiply 8.5 by 9.5.
  • The result gives you your CGPA’s percentage equivalent. For example, if you multiply 8.5 by 9.5, you’d get 80.75.
  • This 80.75% is nothing but your marks in percentage.

That’s it! So if your CGPA is 8.5 on a 10-point scale, your percentage equivalent would be around 80.75%.

9 CGPA to Percentage85.5%
8.6 CGPA to Percentage81.7%
8.4 CGPA to Percentage79.8%
8.14 CGPA to Percentage77.33%
8 CGPA to Percentage76%
7.75 CGPA to Percentage73.625%
7.50 CGPA to Percentage71.25%
7 CGPA to Percentage66.5%

Why should you Convert your CGPA into a Percentage?

Both CGPA and percentage show how well you’re doing in studies, but they’re measured differently. CGPA is an average of the grades you get in all your courses over a certain time. Percentage just shows how many marks you got in one course or test.

Even though lots of colleges use CGPA, some employers or colleges might prefer to see your grades in percentage. That’s because a percentage is more common worldwide.

Switching from the CGPA to a percentage value also helps compare grades across different schools or countries. It makes it easier for colleges or jobs to understand how well you did.

Sometimes, colleges or jobs have a minimum percentage you need to get in. Converting your CGPA to a percentage can help you see if you meet those requirements.

KTU CGPA to Percentage Calculator

KTU has a simple method. First, they calculate your CGPA using a formula that considers the credits and grade points of your courses. Then, they multiply your CGPA by 9.5.

CGPA = (Ci*GPi)/(Ci)

  1. Ci = Credit granted to a certain course
  2. GPi = Grade Point Average for the Course

MAKAUT uses a 7-point grading system like many other universities. They use this formula:

Percentage = (CGPA – 0.75) * 10

How to Convert Percentage to CGPA - Percentage to CGPA calculator

How to Convert Percentage to CGPA – Percentage to CGPA calculator

First off, there are different CGPA scales. One is out of 10, and the other is out of 4. Let’s say you scored 85% on a test, and you want to know your CGPA on a 10-point scale.

Here’s what you do:

  • Divide your percentage by a specific number. For a 10-point CGPA scale, that number is 9.5.
  • So, for an 85% score: 85 ÷ 9.5 = 8.94
  • That means your CGPA equivalent of 85% is 8.94 out of 10.

Remember, though, every college might have its own way of doing this. So, make sure to double-check with your college or university for the exact rules.
