Initiated by Mr Sohan Lal and his associates, the college initially relied on private donations for funding before being taken over by the Government. In the post-independence era of 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru incorporated it as a constituent college under the newly established University of Delhi.
In 1969, a new campus was established off Jail Road, designed as a part-time centre for ongoing intermediate classes. The transformation into a comprehensive degree-granting institution, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Degree College, occurred in 1980, offering not only undergraduate programs but also postgraduate courses starting in 1983.
Recognizing its enduring commitment to societal welfare, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Degree College earned the distinction of being named a ‘Unit Distinguished for its contribution towards Quality Education’ on August 14, 1989.
