Stenography, Secretarial Practices, and IT Skills

Shorthand writing is the speciality of stenography, which enables fast and precise transcription of spoken words. Stenography, Secretarial Practices, and IT Skills offer a comprehensive introduction to stenography’s foundational ideas, techniques, and practical applications. 

Pupils will gain the dexterity required for accurate transcription as well as an understanding of the nuances of shorthand regulations. It establishes the foundation for several vocations requiring quick and accurate transcription abilities.

Assessment Method:

The evaluation process includes regular assessments through assignments and quizzes conducted throughout the term. To fully evaluate the student’s comprehension of the course material, there will also be a final exam at the end of the term.

Radio Jockeying, Anchoring, TV Journalism

This is among the most recognised skill-based courses under OLDC. In-depth training in broadcast media is provided in the Radio Jockeying, Anchoring, and TV Journalism course, which aims to prepare students for fascinating careers in radio, television, and journalism. Through effective and captivating communication, participants acquire the necessary skills for captivating audiences. 

They also learn vital skills for live hosting, scriptwriting, and interviewing. The curriculum prepares students to cover news, conduct interviews, and deliver information with accuracy and professionalism, with a focus on journalistic ethics and captivating narrative.

Assessment Method:

Throughout the course, quizzes and assignments will be used as part of continuing evaluations to grade the students. After the term, a final test will also be given to evaluate students’ overall comprehension and mastery of the subject matter.

Graphic Design and DTP

Upon completing this course, learners will gain essential knowledge and skills in graphic design and desktop publishing. The primary aim is to provide a thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, typography, image editing, and design principles. 

The Graphic Design and DTP course objectives focus on fostering creativity, mastering professional software, and building a solid foundation in design aesthetics. These competencies are vital for learners aspiring to careers or further education in graphic design.

Assessment Method:

The evaluation process includes both continuous assessments and a final exam. Throughout the course, students will be assessed through assignments and quizzes, which contribute to their ongoing evaluation. At the end of the term, there will be a comprehensive examination to gauge the overall understanding of the material.

Applied Psychometrics and Scale Construction

A thorough examination of the fundamental ideas and techniques underlying the development and use of psychological assessment instruments is offered by the Applied Psychometrics and Scale Creation course. It gives students the skills and information necessary to create, assess, and analyse a wide range of scales and assessments that are utilised in psychological research and practice. 

A thorough examination is conducted on subjects such as item response theory, validity, reliability, and factor analysis. Through the integration of theoretical understanding with practical application, students gain the proficiency required to develop, optimise, and certify assessment instruments for evaluating psychological concepts in many contexts.

Assessment Method:

There will be two stages of assessment conducted online. The first stage will evaluate the project work, focussing on how the item functions and the level of difficulty it presents. The second stage will involve an assessment based on video materials and practical exercises.

Time Table of Applied Psychometrics and Scale Construction classes:

  • Online sessions: twice a week on weekdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Offline meetings every other weekend, lasting for four hours.

Animation, Motion Graphics

This course is one of the best skill-based courses under OLDC. This course offers an extensive examination of visual storytelling in a variety of mediums, such as animation and motion graphics. To prepare them for careers in animation studios, cinema, video games, and advertising, students will receive a fundamental education in animation, character design, and narrative development. Additionally, the photography component hones skills in image composition, lighting, and editing, applicable to multiple industries.

Assessment Method:

Multiple assignments and quizzes will be used as part of ongoing evaluations to evaluate the performance of the students. At the end of the term, a final exam will also be given to evaluate students’ general comprehension and topic knowledge.

Photography, Video Editing

This is among the most interesting skill-based courses under OLDC. This course provides an in-depth exploration of visual storytelling across various media, including photography and video editing. It is designed to equip students for careers in animation studios, film, video games, and advertising by covering essential topics such as animation basics, character design, and narrative development.

Through photography, students acquire skills in image composition, lighting, and editing applicable across different industries, while motion graphics fuses animation with graphic design techniques. In addition, the video editing component enhances students’ abilities to craft compelling visual narratives and cohesive storylines suitable for online content, television, film, and advertising.

Assessment Method:

Multiple assignments and quizzes will be used as part of ongoing evaluations to evaluate the performance of the students. At the end of the term, a final exam will also be given to evaluate students’ general comprehension and topic knowledge.

Certificate in Introduction to Networking

Computer networking courses blend theoretical lectures with practical experience, equipping students with the skills necessary for configuring computer network systems. These programs typically feature discussions, lectures, and hands-on projects that explore fundamental networking concepts as well as the latest advancements in the industry. 

Students gain expertise in connecting local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and wireless versions of both. They also learn to integrate hardware devices and establish Internet connectivity. The skills acquired in networking courses apply to various professional paths, including roles as network engineers, programmers, and consultants. Courses may focus on specific operating systems, such as Unix or Windows, and often prepare students for certification in the networking field.

Assessment Method:

 80% compulsory attendance is required to get the certificate.

Beauty and Hair Lab

The Beauty and Hair Lab course offers comprehensive training in both the art and science of beauty and hair care. Participants acquire essential techniques for skincare, makeup application, hairstyling, and salon management. The curriculum encompasses skin analysis, colour theory, haircutting, hair colouring, and client consultations. 

Through a combination of hands-on practical experiences and theoretical instructions, students learn to deliver a wide range of beauty and hair services effectively. With the growing demand for beauty services, this course presents promising job opportunities in the beauty industry.

Assessment Method:

Evaluations will be conducted based on demonstration sessions held in the lab, as well as on the performance exhibited after the course concludes.

Bakery and Confectionery

The Bakery and Confectionery degree offers thorough training in both the science and artistry of baking and confectionery. Essential skills for dealing with chocolate, cake decorating, bread baking, and pastry making are taught to students. With a blend of practical experience and academic understanding, learners acquire the abilities required to create an extensive variety of pastries and sweets.

Assessment Method:

Evaluations will be conducted based on demonstration sessions held in the lab, as well as on the performance exhibited after the course concludes.

Medical Transcription

One of the most expensive courses among skill-based courses under OLDC is medical transcription. It involves the precise and swift conversion of dictated medical records from physicians and healthcare providers into written form. This encompasses a wide range of documents, including letters, psychiatric evaluations, laboratory reports, x-ray findings, pathology reports, history and physical examinations, clinical notes, office notes, operative reports, consultation notes, and discharge summaries.

A medical transcriptionist (MT) plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals by transcribing, formatting, and editing their dictated reports. They possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, proficient typing skills, and a command of language. While many diagnostic centres and hospitals utilise specialised software for report transcription, not all institutions apply the tools that students become familiar with during their practical training.

Assessment Method:

Two tiers of evaluation will be conducted online.

  • Level 1: This assessment will focus on the project work, evaluating both the functionality of the items and the complexity involved.
  • Level 2: This evaluation will be based on video presentations and practice sessions.
