The Delhi University Students’ Union or the DUSU elections 2024 are scheduled for September 27, 2024. DU students will cast their votes in a two-phase election process. The results will determine the office bearers of the student union and members of the central council for the upcoming term. Students can avail relevant details, including the complete election schedule, on the official website of Delhi University.

The nomination process for the DUSU elections 2024 has started on September 17. The candidates were required to submit their nominations by 3 pm on September 19. Following this deadline, the electoral authorities will undertake the task of verifying and scrutinising all submissions. The list of accepted nominations has been released by 6 p.m.

Requests for the withdrawal of nominations will be entertained up until noon on September 20. It will provide candidates with a brief window to reconsider their participation. Once the deadline for withdrawals has passed, the authorities will finalise the list of contenders. The final list will be released by 5 p.m. on September 20.

Revised Schedule of DUSU Election 2024 PDF

The voting arrangements for the DUSU elections 2024 have been carefully organised to accommodate different groups of students. The students having evening classes will cast their votes between 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on September 27. Meanwhile, students having day classes will have the opportunity to vote earlier, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The DUSU elections 2024 will be held using the ballot papers. These ballot papers will be procured, printed, and managed by the college administration only. The EVM will be provided only for the election of four major posts. Here is the notification issued by the authority regarding this decision.

The Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, has appointed key officials to oversee the electoral process. Professor Satyapal Singh from the Sanskrit Department has been appointed as the Chief Election Officer. He will be responsible for managing the overall election procedure. Professor Raj Kishore Sharma from the Department of Chemistry will serve as the Chief Returning Officer. In addition, Dr. Rajesh Singh, the university librarian, has been designated as the returning officer.

These officials will be responsible for ensuring that the election is conducted fairly, efficiently, and transparently. This will guarantee that the student body’s voices are heard in a free and equitable manner. Their roles are vital in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

In the 2023 Delhi University student elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), maintained its strong presence on the central panel.  The ABVP secured three key positions: the presidency, as well as the posts of secretary and joint secretary.

Tushar Dedha was elected as president, while Aprajita and Sachin Baisla took the roles of secretary and joint secretary, respectively. All three were students from the university’s Department of Buddhist Studies.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), aligned with the Congress party, also made its mark by winning the vice president’s post. Abhi Dahiya, another student from the Department of Buddhist Studies, was elected to this position, representing the NSUI’s success in the election.
