Steps one needs to take to become a lecturer at Delhi University

What Should I Do To Become A Lecturer At DU?

Step 1: The Educational Qualification

The first step to becoming a lecturer at Delhi University is to earn a post-graduation degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. The minimum qualification required for applying to become a lecturer is a master’s degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks. However, some departments may ask for higher percentages or additional qualifications such as a Ph.D. degree.

Step 2: NET Exam

National Eligibility Test (NET)

After completing the post-graduation degree, aspiring candidates need to clear the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). NET certification is mandatory for securing a teaching position in any nationally funded educational institution across India.

NET is conducted twice a year, and aspirants can apply online for the exam through the official website of NTA (National Testing Agency).

The question paper consists of two papers- Paper I and Paper II, which comprise multiple-choice questions.

  • Paper I is compulsory, and it tests a candidate’s general awareness, reasoning ability, and research aptitude.
  • Paper-II is based on the candidate’s core subject and is further divided into two parts.

However, candidates with a Ph.D. degree are exempted from the NET exam’s eligibility criteria.

Step 3: PhD degree

Apply to become a lecturer at Delhi University

After securing a minimum qualification and qualifying the NET exam, candidates can apply to become a lecturer at Delhi University, but having a Ph.D. degree enhances their eligibility.

The Ph.D. degree makes the candidate an expert in their field and provides unparalleled opportunities for research and publication. The Ph.D. degree is obtained after successfully completing a research project on a specific topic under the guidance of a supervisor. The Ph.D. degree is a highly regarded qualification in the academic world, and it increases one’s chances of becoming a lecturer or professor.

Step 4: Apply for the position

Once the above-mentioned steps have been successfully completed, the candidate can start the process of applying for the position of a lecturer at Delhi University. Candidates can browse departmental websites or other job portals for available vacancies, complete online applications, and submit their resumes.

The candidate’s resume should highlight their educational qualifications, achievements, work experience, publications, and research papers. The application should also include a cover letter which should summarise the candidate’s skills, experience, and their passion for teaching.

Conclusion

Becoming a lecturer at Delhi University is not an easy task, but with the right education, qualifications, and experience, it is certainly achievable. It requires dedication, hard work, and a passion for teaching and research. Following the steps mentioned above can increase one’s chances of securing such a noble position at Delhi University. Though it is a very competitive field, with the right qualities, patience and determination, aspirants can carve out a fulfilling career as a faculty member at Delhi University.
