Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV, Rajat Sharma attends the DU Literature Festival at Shri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi. Engaging with students during the ‘DU To Prime Time’ event, Sharma took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing some noteworthy moments from his illustrious career. Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the literature festival, Rajat Sharma’s presence added a significant dimension to the event.

With the help of the ‘DU To Prime Time’ event, students were able to interact with an experienced professional and get insight into the subtleties of broadcasting and journalism. The experiences shared by Rajat Sharma certainly made a lasting impression on the attendees, adding to the delightful experience of the Delhi University Literature Festival.

During the ‘DU To Prime Time’ program, Shobhit Mathur, Co-Founder and Vice Chancellor of Rishihood University, engaged in an interactive session with Rajat Sharma in the company of students. Mathur posed a series of questions to Sharma, sparking an insightful exchange. The dynamic dialogue unfolded as Sharma responded in his signature style, weaving together his unique perspective and communication flair.

In the presence of the attentive student audience, the exchange between Mathur and Sharma added an engaging and intellectually stimulating dimension to the event. The ‘DU To Prime Time’ program thus served as a platform for a meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives, fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity and exploration within the university setting.

After coming to the SRCC, it feels as if I have returned to my home

Rajat Sharma

Rajat Sharma expressed a profound sense of familiarity upon returning to SRCC, describing it as a feeling akin to being back home. Reflecting on his student days, he reminisced about a different auditorium and an all-male college environment. During that era, Arun Jaitley, then president of the college union, played the role of a stringent moral enforcer, going to the extent of restricting Sharma’s interactions with others.

Speaking with Shobhit Mathur regarding the 30th anniversary of “Aap Ki Adalat,” Sharma disclosed that the show’s beginnings were not the consequence of careful planning but rather of a coincidental chain of circumstances. Subhash Chandra, the proprietor of Zee News, rose to prominence thirty years ago when there were only two major channels: Doordarshan and Zee News.

Gulshan Grover’s desire to talk to Chandra during a flight served as the impetus for the renowned show. Chandra, who was intrigued by the notion, agreed to an interview with Sharma and thus began the process of creating ‘Aap Ki Adalat.’ It appears that the spontaneity of the moment, as opposed to a prepared strategy, drove the show’s evolution.

Rajat Sharma Shared Memories of the First Day of his College

In the recounting of his college experiences, Rajat Sharma fondly reminisced about the pivotal moment that marked a transformative chapter in his life. Hailing from a modest background, the financial hurdles loomed large for Rajat Sharma, posing a challenge to pay his college fees.

Recalling the incident vividly, he shared the anecdote of his initial days in college when he took his first steps into an unfamiliar world. Armed with the meagre savings from his piggy bank, Rajat approached the fee counter with hopes of securing his education. However, the counts fell short by three rupees, exposing him to the cashier’s reprimand. It was in this moment of distress that an unexpected saviour emerged.

Interrupting the cashier’s scolding, a voice resonated from behind, admonishing the ill-treatment of a fresher. To Rajat’s surprise and relief, it was none other than Arun Jaitley. The seasoned figure not only defended the young student but also exhibited a compassionate gesture by placing a comforting hand on Rajat’s shoulder. From his pocket, Arun Jaitley produced five rupees, ensuring that the financial gap was bridged, allowing Rajat to complete his fee payment.

As Rajat Sharma narrated this incident, he emphasized the lasting impact it had on him. A symbol of support and kindness, Arun Jaitley’s hand remained steadfast on his shoulder as a poignant reminder of the generosity that had altered the course of a struggling student’s life. In these reflections, Rajat Sharma paid tribute to a man who, in a small but meaningful gesture, had left an indelible mark on his college journey.
